Selection Process

The first 12 communities were selected by the e-Vermont Partnership in May 2010 and work in those communities will continue until Spring 2011. Twelve additional communities were selected in December, 2010 with work to begin in January 2011.

Why Apply?

e-Vermont is not stringing cable or fiber. That work is being carried out by others in the state. e-Vermont is working to assist towns to make better use of broadband where it is available.

All selected e-communities will receive:

  • free laptop computers and training for selected classrooms
  • a town wide e-mail based Front Porch Forum to connect neighbors in new ways
  • consulting time and workshops for businesses that want to grow through the internet
  • improved computer access at their local libraries
  • trainings from Vermont State College faculty to help residents with both basic and advanced computer skills.
  • help with other community-defined digital projects

This project is approaching community development in a new way and is funded as a national model for rural broadband adoption. The first round of applications was very competitive (only 12 out of 40 towns were selected), and a strong application will take committed interest.

e-Vermont is already doing very innovative work in the first 12 communities. You'll find a short list of each town's projects on this web site, under the communities section.

How to Apply to Become an e-Vermont Community:
