For the benefit of Vermont, the Vermont State Colleges (VSC) provide affordable, high quality, student-centered and accessible education, fully integrating professional, liberal, and career study. Through the e-Vermont partnership, communities will have an opportunity to tap into the diverse expertise of VSC professors, staff, and students who offer technology training and support through workshops, webinars, and one-on-one assistance—all developed in response to requests from participating e-Vermont communities.
Educational opportunities at Vermont State Colleges encompass 125 academic programs, including courses and programs in computing and information technology that range from web workforce education and training to businesses of all sizes through local and regional partnerships. The workshops and trainings offered through e-Vermont reflect this range of knowledge and will provide residents with skills and tools needed to access high-quality Webbased information sources, utilize social networking and communication tools, and effectively navigate the Internet.
The Vermont State Colleges cover all regions of Vermont, allowing for VSC faculty, staff and students to provide in-person assistance at each of the 24 e-Vermont communities. The Vermont State Colleges have campuses in Castleton, Johnson and Lyndon; Vermont Tech campuses in Randolph Center and Williston, plus seven additional nursing sites; and the twelve academic sites of the Community College of Vermont.
The Vermont State Colleges also have been a leader in utilizing Internet access for delivery of programs and services. In addition to extensive online course offerings—accounting for 20% of CCV’s courses and 10% of all VSC offerings in 2009—we have deployed an active Internet Protocol (IP) videoconferencing network that facilitates communication as well as delivery of instruction across the state. Webinars developed to complement in-person e-Vermont trainings will help all Vermonters gain new skills.
The Vermont State Colleges annually serve over 13,000 enrolled students, nearly 20,000 Vermonters through workforce education and training, and many thousands of community members through cultural enrichment, athletic facilities, volunteer service and public access to libraries. We look forward to adding e-Vermont participants to the thousands of Vermonters who benefit from VSC education each year.
